Stocker Sharks
Second Grade Class

Dear Parents,
Welcome to our partnership. I believe education is a partnership between the parent, student, and teacher. We cannot possibly be successful without each other.
I want to assure you that I will praise your child at every opportunity. I will also hold them accountable for their behavior and expect that they will work with me to find the calmest solutions to problems. If they need guidance I will do my best to give it. I want to see your child succeed!
The most important help you can give me is to remember to show your child that you love them every day with hugs, praise, smiles, and laughter. Read to your child and listen to them read every day, for at least 15-20 minutes. Talk with your child about what they are learning at school and go over their homework with them. If you have questions please call me or write a note. With that kind of help it will certainly be a great year!
There will be homework, but very rarely on Friday. Spelling homework will usually come home on Monday and is due on Friday. You’ll receive more about that later. Other types of homework will vary during the week. As mentioned above, reading with your child for 15-20 minutes daily is homework. You should also practice math facts on a daily basis. More will come home about that. Even if there are no homework sheets in the home folder you should always practice spelling words, read, and practice addition facts daily! Please check the home folder every night and return it every day!! I try to send a newsletter twice a month to keep you up on what’s happening in the class. Rule of thumb: If your child says, “Mrs. Walls told me to tell you ______.” Then I probably did. If you aren’t sure, just call me, because after all “Kids say the darndest things.”
My class does a weekly feature on the Stocker News called “The Joke Jar”. I look forward to continuing “The Joke Jar” this year. Amazingly it encourages them to read a lot of joke and riddle books that perhaps they wouldn’t have chosen before. It also encourages them to listen for funny things to share. We start every day with a joke or riddle, because I also believe humor is extremely important in our lives. So if you have a good joke to share, please do!
My class has a healthy snack every morning at 10:00 while I read aloud. I prefer that students bring fruits and vegetables, because it is so difficult to get enough servings of these during the day. However, the important thing is that it is healthy. So crackers, pretzels, cheese sticks, yogurt etc. are acceptable as well. Please be sure to peel and/or cut the snack according to your child’s preference. No cookies, candy or potato chips are allowed!!
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you. I know it will be a great year!
For your children,
Mrs. Walls
